Talented police dog can walk tightrope blindfolded and hold breath underwater

The world's most talented police dog can walk on a tightrope blindfolded and hold his breath underwater.

The dog, named Lachi, works for the Border Cops in Chisinau, the capital city of Moldova.

He is constantly being trained by his police dog trainer partner Ghenadie Rotaru, 46.

Despite celebrating his sixth birthday recently, the Malinois K9 police dog is still learning as fast as ever.

His talents landed him guest appearances on local TV shows including Romania's Got Talent, where he demonstrated some of his skills.

Lachi also takes part in shows at the Moldovan National Theatre, where he performs tricks such as walking on a single tightrope as well as a double rope.

The dog has also shown he is capable of holding his breath underwater for more than a minute.

Some people online questioned whether walking blindfolded on a rope while pulling a load is something the dog would ever need in action.

But Ghenadie says it helps build trust between dogs and humans.

He said learning to walk on tightropes or holding his breath underwater helps the dog train his physical and mental health.

It also prepares him to help police in extreme situations, for example involving a fire or a natural disaster like an earthquake, Ghenadie said.

The serving police officer, from the city of Leova, said police dogs are valuable not just for the work that they do catching suspects or sniffing out drugs, but are also great for the image of the force.

He said: "The public appreciate the abilities of dogs like Lachi, and they have exactly the opposite effect on criminals who really fear them."

Asked about the secret to his success, the dog training expert is clear that only one thing counts.

He said: "There must be no secrets and you must never try to fool the dog."

He said during training Lachi learned to trust him, which has allowed them to achieve incredible things together.

Ghenadie added that Lachi's skills show a police dog can continue training and improving regardless of their age, race or temperament.
